A senior Meta consultant has rejected claims that the corporate can entry non-public WhatsApp chats.

The denial got here after a number of customers filed a lawsuit in a US courtroom on January 23, which accused Meta of deceptive them about WhatsApp’s privateness options.

The case was submitted in San Francisco by customers from nations together with Australia, Mexico, South Africa, and India. They argued that the app’s end-to-end encryption just isn’t as non-public as Meta claims and are searching for monetary compensation.

Based on the criticism, the purpose is to disclose what they describe as “critical privateness violations and fraud” affecting WhatsApp customers who consider their messages are safe.

Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, responded on X on January 26. He referred to as the allegations “categorically false and absurd”, whereas including that the lawsuit was a “frivolous work of fiction”.

Though Meta has not issued an official assertion in regards to the case, the corporate’s encryption data web page reiterates that end-to-end encryption ensures solely the sender and recipient can view messages.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov expressed assist for the lawsuit. He acknowledged, “You’d should be braindead to consider WhatsApp is safe in 2026. Once we analyzed how WhatsApp applied its ‘encryption’, we discovered a number of assault vectors”.
