Seven Smithsonian buildings in Washington, DC, have abruptly shut their doorways in the present day (6 August) after a mechanical failure. The seven establishments affected are all positioned alongside the southern fringe of the Nationwide Mall: the Nationwide Museum of the American Indian, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Backyard, Nationwide Museum of Asian Artwork, Nationwide Museum of African Artwork, Smithsonian Fort, Arts and Industries Constructing and the S. Dillon Ripley Middle.
“The buildings had been closed after an outage on the Basic Service Administration’s Heating Operations and Transmission Division plant disrupted the chilled water provide wanted to assist the Smithsonian’s cooling programs and humidity controls in South Mall museums,” a spokesperson for the Smithsonian Establishment mentioned in a press release. “As soon as GSA resolves this challenge, the Smithsonian will return to regular operations.”
